We have three after school clubs at BGMS
School’s Out (After school program)
The School’s Out program is funded by United Way and takes place Monday-Friday from 3:00-5:00pm for grade six and seven students. The club is run by Encompass Support Services Society and is free of charge with snacks provided. Each day students have a different activity, which focuses on hands on learning. Monday is cooking, Tuesday is Drama or Art, Wednesday the club is in the community enjoying bowling, skating or other activities, Thursdays the club explores Science or plays games, and Friday is in the gym. The club is supported by students from Aldergrove Senior Secondary who volunteer their time to help out. A snack is provided.
Aboriginal Club :
The Aboriginal Club is open to every student, no matter of race or age in our Betty Gilbert community. The ‘A’ Team, (name of our club) is funded and supported by the Langley School District’s Aboriginal Department and is lead by two ACSS Aboriginal Honor Roll Students. These exceptional Role Models offer 1:1 & small group tutoring, life skills, and arts & crafts activities.
On Tuesdays and Wednesdays there is 25 minutes of tutoring followed by a nutritious meal and a fun activity, (3:00 to 4:30). On Thursdays we either participate in life skills, (Fiona’s Kitchen), Arts & Crafts, (Deanna’s craft shop), or an age appropriate Movie. As well, on a few special occasions we are lucky to have our District Cultural Presenters visit our program to share their special gifts and activities, (3:00 to 5:00).
Also, through out the year there are multiple special events offered to the students who attend our program on a regular basis. We either go on a field trip, (bowling or slot car racing), or have classroom party celebrations.
The cost of the program is free of charge, and again, it is open to all students in our BGMS community.
Homework Club :
We have homework club after school from 3:00pm until 4:00pm. We have staff and students from ACSS leadership program actively supporting. Students will have the opportunity to receive extra support on their school work in a caring environment.
